This week in Omaha, various local dining spots are offering prix fixe three course menus as part of Omaha Restaurant Week. On Monday night, my friend Sarah and I decided to participate by visiting Blatt Beer & Table - a restaurant I've been meaning to go to since CWS season.
For $19, you choose your courses (menu here).
I ordered the Bavarian Pretzel Bites which came with some of the best mustard I've ever had as well as this awesome gruyere fondue dip. Sarah went with the Duck Fat Frites which were paired with a smokey, almost BBQ style homemade ketchup and parmesan aioli. Each dip had its own signature taste but managed to compliment each other perfectly.
As Sarah and I dined, the term we used most to describe our experience was Zingy. The dip pairings took the seemingly normal "bar type" food to the next level. For our second course, I went with the Blatt Burger and Sarah the Currywurst.
Both dishes were full of flavor. Sarah enjoyed the kraut mixed with the curry overtones. At first she was a bit confused, but the more she ate, the more she enjoyed this vegetarian option.
And then came dessert. The inside of the restaurant darkened quite quickly without the sun so my pictures didn't turn out so hot. It's a shame too because they were divine. I ordered the Red Velvet Waffles which were paired with this delicious cream cheese frosting and jelly-like syrup. Sarah got the Apple & Brie Bread Pudding which tasted like the inside of a Christmas shop with it's warm cardamon-gingered apples. We came hungry and left stuffed (and with leftovers at that!) .
After our trip to Blatt, we hit up another new Omaha bar - Pageturner's Lounge. Here are a few of the shots I snapped there. It was surprisingly slow, well maybe not considering it was a Monday night. Our bartender was extremely friendly and the music selection was the perfect balance of post-punk and 80's pop jams (Bands played included Joy Division, Metallica, Bobby Brown, and Prince).
