Wind Down / Wound Up

Well folks, after taking last weekend off from blogging, we are back this week to help you plan your weekend! After having a four day weekend, I am realizing how easy it is for me to get out of my routine and how hard it is to then get back into it. I've been a little bit of a lazy piece of shit this week, but this weekend: NO MORE. I gotta get out before the impending doom (snow) that is just looming over our heads, ready to strike at any time, actually does start falling. And also before it's so cold out that I don't want to move. So as the work week winds down, WO+SF and crew are getting ready for the weekend.

FRIDAY November 30
  • If you are someone who rarely makes it downtown, you HAVE to go at least once at this time of year. The Gene Leahy Mall is illuminated by thousands of lights and deserves a jaunt through. Then you can grab dinner and hit up the shops, and don't forget to get a warm [alcoholic] beverage at Mr. Toad's.
  • Film Streams does it again: brings great movies to Omaha that otherwise might never get here. Tonight Anna Karenina opens and this is the only place you can catch it at in Omaha. Keira Knightly once again stars in the movie of a classic novel, and, also, Jude Law is in this. Enough said.

SATURDAY December 1
  • Missing the Farmer's Market? You're in luck because you can get your fix this weekend at the Holiday Market, happening both Saturday and Sunday at Aksarben Village. This is a great way to both get your Christmas shopping done and support local businesses. P.S.: Santa will be there.
  • If you are still looking to do some more Christmas shopping and still want to shop local Hot Shops is having their Holiday Open House this weekend.
  • O'Leaver's is having their annual chili cook off and pie bake if you're in the mood for some eatin'.
  • Feeling low key this weekend? Check out our new favorite bar, Josephine's Cozy Corner Lounge. We went here last Friday night and kind of took the place over as all the other patrons left fairly early. It has a REAL jukebox, and a real funny bartender.
SUNDAY December 2
  • Don't forget that both the Holiday Market and Holiday Open House are also going on today!
  • It's officially December so get your holiday spirit on and start decorating your house, putting up your tree, and hanging your lights.

WO+SF Gimme! Gimme! List

Now that Thanksgiving is over, everyone's attention has turned towards The Big Event: Christmas, of course. I feel like I always wait until the week before Christmas to start doing all the Christmas-y things I have planned in my head, and then I don't get to enjoy them for as long. So this year, we are vowing to start the season in a timely fashion and get our trees up and our craft on ASAP. So for this week's GG list we've gathered up the Christmas crafts we most want to make. Stay tuned for future posts to see how they turned out!

Sharing Thanks

Even though I'm thankful for these things EVERY day, sometimes it's nice to just sit down and reflect. Today, I just wanted to share some of the things I'm thankful for, the things that make my life truly great.

1.) My family. All of 'em. My parents who have never been anything but supportive. My brother who is hilarious and who is truly caring, but shh, I didn't tell you that. My Memere, who is the sweetest woman in the world and who has shown me that even she at 80 could make a huge life change, so I shouldn't be too worried about it 25. :) ALL of my extended family who I spent my life growing up with.

2.) Oliver. This asshole just chewed up one of my slippers while I was in the shower, but I can't even stay mad at him for more than 30 seconds. I am such a sucker. He is my cuddle pup and brings joy to my life every single day.

3.) Meghan. I can't believe we've been doing this blog for getting close to a year! Working on this blog has definitely brought us closer together. This girl has always been there for me even after I have done some stupid shit. I couldn't ask for a better friend.

4.) My job. I have a job that challenges me and doesn't bore me to death. I have a job that compensates me well so that I can do cool things like go to Paris. I have a job that I kind of stumbled into, which is pretty much how I come across most good things in my life.

I hope everyone has a chance to think of a few things they are grateful for on this day as well as stuff themselves silly with food!

Happy Turkey Day!!

To all you readers out there we hope you're enjoying this wonderful day with your families. Whether they are the family your were born into or the family you made, be sure to tell each and every one of them how thankful you are to have them in your life.

We're spending the day gorging ourselves on too much food and wine. During the evening you will probably find us up at Krug Park. As a group of friends we met here last year and it was so much fun. I think we even sang loudly to the bar (Queen, maybe?).

So be safe over this holiday weekend. We likely will be taking a little break, but don't fret we'll be back soon. And if you're crazy enough to be out Black Friday shopping today, I hope those deals are worth it. And don't forget about Small Business Saturday!

WO + SF Gimme! Gimme! List

Hey y'all, we hope you're as excited as we are to start this holiday break. If not for the turkey and drinking at least for the few days off of work. I feel like tomorrow I'm gonna bust out of work like this from the excitement

So as one of our last Thanksgiving posts this year (yeah, yeah, we'll have something for you tomorrow) we thought we'd devote this week's Gimme! Gimme! List to, what else, CLOTHES AND ACCESSORIES.  Real surprising stuff, right?

SPANKSGIVING - An Event for the Masses

At the end of the night we realized we didn't really take any pictures. I know, we're horrible bloggers. That being said, SPANKSGIVING was never about sticking behind a camera, it was about togetherness, food, and lots and lots of wine.

As the night progressed the kitchen got tighter, the delicious smells got stronger and the laughs got louder. Our friend G nailed the turkey (his first attempt!) and the sides varied from the traditional green bean casserole to Cooper's family' s ultra-cheesy Mac N' Cheese.

All in all, the entire event was a success. The clean up was pretty minimal too since we opted for easy discardable place settings. AND EVERYBODY KEPT THEIR PARTY HATS ON ALL NIGHT!

Web Wilderness / Branching Out

I'm glad to report back to you all that SPANKSGIVING went off without a hitch (well, not entirely but pretty damn close so we're taking it as a win). And as we enter this holiday week we're happy we get to spend time with our families but pray for the patience to deal with them as a whole. For the first  time in about four years my entire immediate family is able to gather together which is as exciting as it is worrisome. But that's neither here nor there.

So as we enter this short work week we hope you take time to wrap up your projects and clear your head from the stress of your job. In case you've already checked out for the week, here are some internet findings to help you pass the time.
  • In case you are still struggling to decide what to bring to your Thanksgiving festivities, this infographic will help.
  • Ok, so the internet has been in a big huff over this opinion piece on hipster culture. Unfortunately, the generation gap between the subject and author is painfully clear. As a result Flarowire gives us 15 explanations into making sense of this short-sided patronization of our generation.
  • On a not so serious note, this new Sandra Bullock/Melissa McCarthy movie looks pretty good.
  • Yeah, I'll admit it, I still watch America's Next Top Model. I honestly can't explain why I'm still drawn to it because Tyra just keeps getting crazier and crazier. Speaking of which, apparently she just released an app which helps users smize. God I hate myself for even writing that word.
  • I'm becoming more and more obsessed with cinemagraphs. They are just so freaking cool. How cool? Check it. Pretty rad, right? More here.
  • Architecture for Dogs. That's all I'm gonna say.
  • If you're in charge of bringing 'zerts to Thanksgiving make these no bake Butterscotch Pretzel Bars and then bring me one.
  • Lord knows we love Pinterest. You know what's especially great? When you're automatically entered to win a gift card just by pinning you're favorite stuff. Sound too good to be true? Well then Hello-Holiday is going to blow your mind

Wind Down / Wound Up

I'm going to say that it is officially the start of the holidays. Spanksgiving weekend is finally here and I am extremely excited to have our friends over to my home for a huge meal and copious amounts of wine. I'm pretty sure I will be spending my Friday making pies and stuffing and doing some last minute cleaning, but I may sneak out for a drink or three. While WO+SF celebrates the spirit of Spanksgiving with our friends, we hope you too have time to show thanks for your friends too. As the work week winds down, WO+SF and crew are getting wound up for Spanksgiving weekend!

FRIDAY November 16

SATURDAY November 17
  • SPANKSGIVING 2K12!!!!! Do you do any sort of Thanksgiving gathering with your friends? (Friendsgiving, if you will.) If not, it's never too late to throw something together! If you don't have time to make a turkey, you could always do appetizers and pie with seasonal drinks.
  • There is a Husker game, which I am painfully aware of due to boys not wanting to participate in Spanksgiving for fear of missing the game. Don't worry, we pushed back the time. So if you like the Huskers, I guess watch the game. I don't know who they are playing and I'm not going to strain myself by looking it up.
  • There is a great show tonight at The Slowdown. The Mynabirds headline and are supported by The So-So Sailors, and Deleted Scenes.

SUNDAY November 18
  • The day after I holiday is always a little bit of a recovery day. I personally like lay around watching tv, never getting dressed all day, and eat left overs. But that's just me.
  • On Sundays, Krug Park has $1 off Bloody Marys and $3 Mimosas. PLUS Lot 2 next door will deliver brunch over to Krug up until 2 PM! Treat yo self!

Thursday, November 15, 2012

At the beginning of the month we decided we were going to take Thanksgiving by the balls and host our very own meal with some of our good friends. Now, we're just a few days before the event so it's time to get some crafts done!

We did our research and collected a gaggle of ideas when we came across DIY Pilgrim hats. Inspiration struck and we had our theme. A politically incorrect celebration like the ones from our days in elementary school. Here's the down-low on what we decided to make -

Follow the links above for directions. We followed them pretty close to a tee. Here are pictures from our crafting adventure -
