Wind Down / Wound Up

Hello dear weekend, how lovely to see you again! This week actually flew by for me, I just hope the weekend goes nice and slow. This weekend I'm thinking about painting the ceiling of my dining room the Pantone color of the year, Radiant Orchid. Plus, Meghan and I are celebrating our 2 year Blogiversary with some delicious brunch on Sunday. What other way is there to celebrate? If you're not quite sure what you're doing with your weekend we've got some suggestions for you! As the work week winds down, WO+SF and crew are getting wound up for the weekend!

FRIDAY January 31
  • Universe Contest hosts their annual Winter Formal. This year's theme? Drag! That is surely a theme we can get behind. Head down to the Slowdown to see Universe Contest, along with Talking Mountain and Touch People.
  • Starting today you can see the Oscar shorts, both live action and animated, at Film Streams. If you're one of those who likes to see EVERY movie before you watch the Oscars, don't miss your chance to see these!
SATURDAY February 1
SUNDAY February 2
  • At 11:00 AM we will be brunching our hearts out at Le Bouillon, the new French restaurant that was replaced the French Cafe. This is FANCY brunch, y'all, and we'll be sure to tell you all about it! Even if you're not feeling like going too fancy, treat yo' self to some delicious brunch. It's the best meal of the day!
  • Obviously most of the United States will be spending their evenings watching the Super Bowl, the puppy bowl, the Super Bowl commercials, and/or the Super Bowl halftime show, and eating. We suggest you  join in. Go to a friend's house or a sports bar and do your American duty. We will be munching on DIPS in between commercials, ourselves. :)

Vegetarian Test Kitchen - Spinach-Pesto Pasta with Roasted Red Peppers and Ricotta

Three weeks and three vegetarian meals, sup New Year's Resolutions? This week marks another week of comfort food, and we'll take any chance to make use of Kerry's food processor. Pesto, while typically reserved for spring and summertime actually makes for a wonderful winter meal. Especially when you add more garlic than the recipe calls for (yeah your breath might smell later, but it's totally worth it).  Clocking in at under 30 minutes, it's the perfect weeknight meal solution!

Spinach was definitely a nice additive to the recipe and we like our sauce a little grittier, so feel free to pulsate the pesto mixture more if you like your sauce to be smoother.

Of course we had some helpers along the way

One of the things that caught our eye about this recipe was the roasted red pepper, what an amazing addition to your standard pesto pasta dish.

A dollop of cheese always makes a good meal great.

What are some of your favorite cold-weather pasta recipes?

WO + SF Gimme! Gimme! List

Hey sport fans, it's Super Bowl Sunday this weekend and you know what that means - it's time to enjoy some fried deliciousness and a few brews. While we might not be the most sport-savy ladies, we DO enjoy sitting back with a big plate of nachos and yelling at the TV with some of our more athletic minded friends. This week we're dedicating our GG list to our favorite game day comfort foods and in case you don't want to watch the game in your home, OWH did a great write-up on some of Omaha's best sports bars. Take my word for it - Donohue's is a great bar with cheap drinks and a super friendly staff.

Aloha Omaha

For the second year in a row, I visited Saint Cecelia's for their annual flower show. This year brought a tropical/South Pacific theme which was an incredible tease considering the bitterly cold weather we've been experiencing lately. Looking back at my photos from last year, I may have actually enjoyed that show better (I liked the color pallete better I guess?), however I'll never say boo to some beautiful floral arrangements.

While we were waiting to walk through the show, we were entertained by some really lovely Hawaiian dancers -
