Web Wilderness / Branching Out

Revel in the last day of June my friends. While July 4th is probably our favorite holiday of the year, we're looking forward to doing some introspective thinking this week and start making plans as to how we'd like to spend our remaining summer months. I always get a little anxious around the end of June because I realize how little I've done to enjoy the nice weather (I haven't been to a pool yet this year, or camping and that kind of bums me out). The last two weeks have been a whirlwind for me. My schedule, and most importantly my sleep schedule, were turned on their heads and now I'm looking forward to getting back on a routine and un-fuck-ulate my sleeping patterns. Then again, what's a little sleep deprivation in the face of a summer, and potentially longer, romance?

So, cheers to the four-day week ahead y'all. We're planning on wearing our finest red, white and blue to O'Leaver's this Friday for what is going to be an amazing show. How will you be spending the 4th?

  • This cover of Echo & The Bunnymen's "The Killing Moon" by Lydia Loveless is just fantastic.
  • If you're one who stops on their way to work for coffee every morning, might we suggest you try Archetype Coffee over on 40th and Farnam? We've only heard great things about this new midtown Omaha joint.
  • Loving this behind-the-scene look at local retailer, Hello Holiday's latest photo shoot. I love seeing my friend Jenny modeling too, what a babe!
  • I love this embroidered pocket DIY. Methinks with the amount of button up shirts I have, personalizing them with some embroidering will need to happen in the near future.
  • Like we needed any excuse to post a link to cute foxes
  • Swoon over all of these vintage photos.
  • This pretty much sums up my daily life.
  • A Moonrise Kingdom themed clothing line/lookbook? Yes, please.

On Saturday morning, I awoke at 5:45 am to the most beautiful golden sunrise peeping through my window. I, of course, had to go out to see it in it's full glory, and the pictures below does it no justice.

Saturday Jams #2.26

Have you been outside yet today? It's fantastic out there. Take in the cool weather before the rain comes later tonight. If you're looking for something to do later tonight, a port in the storm if you will, we'll be up at O'Leaver's for their super cheap bar night. Jameson shots for all!

Bauhaus - "All We Ever Wanted Was Everything"
I've been feeling all of the feelings to this song recently

Hospitality - "I Miss Your Bones"
Yep. Yep.

Wind Down / Wound Up

Hooray for weekends! Don't get my wrong, I like my job, but sometimes you just need a few days that are purely your own. Thus the invention of weekends. If you're looking for some events to fill up your days, we got you covered. As the work week winds down, WO+SF and crew are getting wound up for the weekend.

FRIDAY June 27

SUNDAY June 29

We hope all of your weekends are as fun as this:

Souring & Devouring Omaha - El Alamo

People are always looking for "The Best of Omaha" and in my honest opinion - El Alamo is it as far as Mexican food goes in town. Located in the heart of South O on 24th Street, El Alamo's large menu offers a variety of dishes from burritos, to enchiladas. to chimichangas, flautas, huevos rancheros, and more.

Oh, and if you're in a party of more than 3 people, we highly recommend you invest in a pitcher of margaritas. At $15, it's a little on the expensive side, but seriously, trust us on this one.

After our visit to El Alamo, we stopped by Borgata brewery and distillery for a fundraiser to keep the Localmotive food truck alive. I tried this white whiskey which to my surprise, was a quite delicious and light on-the-rocks drink to end the night on.

A Summer, Art Walk

One of our favorite annual summer activities is walking around the Omaha Summer Arts Festival downtown. Good food, good art, and good people, you just can't go wrong with it.

Below are our purchases for the day. YEP. Don't they look exactly like Oliver and Bebop?! We couldn't believe when we saw the Oliver one holding what we're calling a whiskey diet, one our of favorite drinks of all time.

Oh, and then we passed by this creepy van and we just had to stop for a picture. DUH.

Web Wilderness / Branching Out

Hello Monday. You bring me no joy as it marks the end of a relaxing weekend and the beginning of a busy work week full of meetings, presentations and the possibility of public humiliation. I'll get through you though. And I'm not looking forward to your end, because a recent spark will be leaving my life for 6 weeks. As adults, there are trails we meet in life, that we have to roll with. This is no different. It's not going to be easy, but hey, no one ever said love was.

Enough of that nonsense, here are some internet links to help you ease into your Monday.
  • Man, I knew I should have tried to catch one of the few Faint shows over the last few weeks.
  • I'm in love with these travel posters from the 20's or 30's. I've been craving an adventure lately.
  • Holeeee Geeeeez I want these in my mouth immediately.
  • I would love to adopt this as my summer look please.
  • All of these sounds delicious. That reminds me, I need to have that apartment warming party soon...
  • Someone buy this print for me please!
  • These make me want to break out my polaroid camera. Oh yeah, and I should probably be using my disposable camera a little more too.
  • Yes to all of these. Now that it's getting unbearably hot outside, braids are my go-to to get the hair off of my neck. Because I have a lot of hair.
This weekend was quite fun. I bought some art and toasted a friend who will be leaving soon for graduate school, saw Peter Murphy, had my first meeting as an Omaha Girls Rock volunteer, and of course hung out with my best furry friend, Bebop.

Saturday Jams #2.25

I'm trying to take today to relax. The beginning of this next week is going to be a hectic one, but tonight, I'm going up to The Waiting Room to see Peter Murphy, which I'm pretty stoked about. Here's your friendly reminder to live in the moment today, especially since it's the first official day of summer!

HERS - "Please"
I'm pretty sad this band isn't around town anymore because this video of theirs is pretty fantastic.

Low - "Transmission"
Oh ma god, how did I not know this cover existed until just recently?!

Wind Down / Wound Up

It's been a steamy week and that looks to continue into the weekend. Even though I've lived in the Midwest all my life somehow the heat surprises me every year. I have a feeling I'll be doing a lot of indoor activities this weekend. Looking for something to do this weekend? We've got you covered! As the work week winds down, WO+SF and crew are getting wound up for the weekend.

  • Pick up some vintage and antique goods at Junkstock.
  • Criteria and Universe Contest play The Slowdown.
  • Need a few chuckles? Go see the Ian and Cody show at O'Leaver's.

SUNDAY June 22
  • Cheer on Team USA as they play their second game in the World Cup! Have a party at your house or hit up your favorite sports bar.

This song is how I feel about weekends:

When I Retire

I want to move into this building downtown…

Girls Be Grilling

Whether Kerry knew it or not, one of my summer goals was for her to get a grill at her house so we could become grill masters. Growing up, my family grilled a lot in the summertime and dreams of sweet corn, potatoes, salmon and of course mass amounts of burgers have been dancing in my head since the weather finally warmed up.

To my ever ending joy, Kerry invested in a grill and we recently had our inaugural cook-out, making these deliciously juicy burgers. I think it's safe to say you'll be seeing more grill-related posts over the course of the next few months.

WO + SF Gimme! Gimme! List

We've said it before and we'll say it again: Bravo to whoever created Pinterest! It is SO wonderful to have an easy way to save all those things we find on the interweb that we might want to look back it. That being said, this week we are sharing some our recent pins that sparked our interest for whatever reason. Also, be sure to follow us over on Pinterest - Kerry & Meghan.
