HBD KJ aka Wise Owl

As I'm sitting down to write this post, Queen's "Best Friend" comes to mind. Kerry's friendship means so much to me, there really aren't words to describe it other than it warms my heart. We bonded over reading and our senses of humor, and now I can't imagine a life without her support and companionship. There are far too many memories to queue up right now and I'm certain there are more to come ----

Happy birthday my dear KJ! I hope your 27th year on this earth rules!

Also, I just couldn't help myself...

MF Goes KC, MO

This past weekend, I felt the need to get out of town for a few days, so after work on Friday I made the trek down to Kansas City to visit some old friends and just take a break to reeeeelaaaaax. I rolled into town around 8 pm and met my gals over at Harry's Bar & Tables which has one of the best patios in Westport. Catching up with old friends over good cocktails while sitting outside on a patio are what keep relationships together people (even whent it's 95 degrees out with 100% humidity).

I stayed at one of my friend's place where I got to meet her creatures -

My only goal for the weekend was to go to Westport Cafe and Bar for a meal and some hang time. This place is my La Buvette in KC, my home away from home away from home. The awesome thing about their brunch is that included in the price of your meal is a complimentary cocktail - a bloody mary, bellini or mimosa. Now THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.

Next, it was off to the plaza to see my friend's place of employment. Oh boy, was Hotel Sorella nice. We pretty much felt like dirtbags while we were there, but it was really fun having my friend give us the tour and pretend like we were planning this big event (a super sweet 16 is what we decided on) and look around disapprovingly.

You just can't beat the view from the top, right?

Next, it was off to Lee's Summit where my other friend lives. There's an adorable little downtown area with lots of small, locally owned shops. I can definitely see the draw here after spending most of the day in the city. We stopped in at a home-brewing store for a quick drink before getting some pizza for dinner.

Last stop on the tour de KC was back to the city where we visited Kansas City Bier Co. I gave drinking the beer below a good ole college try, alas, I only made it about half-way through the glass before I just couldn't anymore. Beer, why won't you let me enjoy you?

All in all, my quick road trip was exactly what I needed. An escape for a few days with some new adventures while revisiting some old ones as well. I was definitely glad to be back in Omaha on Sunday, but sometimes a break is needed to remind yourself how good you actually have it here, in The Good Life.

Web Wilderness / Branching Out

Phew you guys, this has been A WEEK, and it's only Tuesday. I've been going a mile a minute and it's finally caught up with me. I'm absolutely and totally exhausting, so this is going to be short and sweet. As you are easing yourself into the week (happy almost Wednesday), here are some internet links to ease the pain.
  • In this week's local show action - There's an awesome free event at Midtown Crossing hosted by the folks over at Hear Nebraska. It's going to be so beautiful out tomorrow, you would be remiss to not attend. Then on Thursday our friends Post Verse are playing at O'Leaver's.
  • YESSSSS. These were a real throwback for me.
  • Ryan Adams covers Danzig?! Yes pleeeeease.
  • The real question here is, am I metal enough to pull this off?
  • I imagine when my dude returns, the moment I see him again for the first time will go something like this
  • Humans of Nick Cave is a pretty great read. I'm super excited for his experimental documentary to arrive at Film Streams in the fall. I saw a preview for it when I was there last week seeing Stop Making Sense and I may or may not have cried.
  • Morgan Freeman + Juggalos = Hilarity
  • Will it just doesn't get funnier than this
  • Well, I definitely cried and felt all of the feelings when I watched this
  • Some good bits of bar knowledge here. Rule #1: don't be a jaghole.
  • There are some really bizarre facts in here. Bat Bomb?!
Check out Kerry's view from a downtown Omaha roof this weekend. We seriously love this city ….<3

Wind Down / Wound Up

Sorry guys,  I have had a cold all week and it doesn't seem to be getting better. I know, who gets a cold in the summer?? So I'm just now getting around to writing this post but better late than never, right? Here's some ways you can spend the rest of your weekend!

SATURDAY July 26
  • Celebrate Benson at Benson Day's! There's a street festival with food and drinks and music and lots of stores have set up outside to sell their goods, including Hello Holiday at Krug Park.
  • Slush and Lunch (cool band names) are playing with the Slowdown AND a sock hop is going on? I'm semi-confused about this event but in a good way.
  • After you check out Benson Days spend your night in Benson gettin' down at Benson Soul Society.
SUNDAY July 27

Last night I got to hang out on a roof top at 19th and Dodge and here was our amazing view:

Saturday Jams #2.30

Parquet Courts – “Bodies Made Of”
This is the perfect mix of psychedelia and punk. Of course I'm over the moon about it.

Bishop Allen – “Start Again”
This is a great song to take a walk to.
