In Rapture ((Week of Aug 5))

  • I had a big reaction to this piece about how our media loves to portray artists as activists and how quickly that becomes a toxic mixture. It reduces the artist to a token representation of whatever they stand for. We push away from the idea of the individual and create an unknowing icon. It's always easier to paint someone as the martyr rather than take a collective stand. I get a sense that true activism is lacking in individuals today. We like to post on social media and be outraged, but what are we really doing to solve these problems? Instead of jumping on two 'feuding' pop stars, why aren't we recognizing this sensationalism and moving on to finding some solutions?
  • It should come as no surprise that I'm IN LOVE with these paintings by Kurt Pio
